It was a dumb thing to say. The only "safe" thing a politician can say about rape is how terrible it is and how rapists should be punished. Otherwise, he/she will be castigated by the media and their criitcs.
Akin isn't a monster. He's a fantastic fiscal conservative who never should have been lured into talking about social issues.
For an example of the INCREDIBLY STUPID things your critics will say, just look above. Trail of tears....really?
