Voting in Thursday's meeting of the St. Peters Board of Aldermen isn't likely to take too much time.
During the first meeting of 2012, the Board listened to a presentation about the need to add eight new cars. Tonight, during the meeting which begins at 7 p.m. at the Justice Center, the Board will decide if the city should go through with the purchase.
After the city decided to not purchase any new cars in 2011 in an effort to save money, the St. Peters Police Department is looking to add some new cars to the fleet to replace the older or broken-down cars. The eight new cars will cost $23,373 each, for a total cost of $186,984. The cars will be new Ford Police Cruisers, different than the model the department currently uses.
The vote on the car replacement is actually the only item on the agenda for the second meeting in January. Normally the Board votes on multiple items, but the agenda contains just one action item.
If the work session, which starts at 5 p.m., agenda is any indication, the first February meeting won't have such a light agenda
The Board's work session on Thursday tackles a lot of road-related issues. First off, the Board will discuss a street name change. In December, the Planning and Zoning Commission recommended a proposal to get a portion of the Cave Springs Road changed. The section north of Highway 370 would remain Lakeside Park Drive, while the area south would become Truman Road.
Other items the Board will discuss pavement marking bids and asphaltic concrete materials purchase. The board will also discuss a recycling Blue Bag purchase and other things.
The work session begins at 5 p.m. and the meeting starts at 7 p.m. Board of Aldermen meetings and work sessions are broadcast on Charter Cable channel 992 and U-Verse channel 99. Replays of the meetings are played periodically throughout the month. Board of Aldermen meetings are also available online to view live or on demand.
