Celebrate St. Peters Event Looking For Master Grillers

Lakeside Que-Topia organizers are looking for barbecue experts to compete in cooking contest.

One of the featured events at the upcoming Celebrate St. Peters 2011 event will be the Lakeside Que-Topia Backyard Barbecue competition.

The Outreach benefit will seek to find the best barbecue cooker in the area. With the backing of the Kansas City Barbecue Society, the event will be a Missouri state championship event. The winner of the contest will receive a proclamation as a Missouri barbecue champion by Governor Jay Nixon.

The competion will take place on Friday, Sept. 16 and Saturday, Sept. 17, at Lakeside 370.

The Backyard Barbecue portion of the contest is open to 24 amateur barbecue teams. The teams will compete to see who can grill the best pork steaks, bratwurst and hamburgers. The entrance fee for the even is $25 and teams will be provided with the meat along with a 25-foot-by-25-foot area to cook.

“Team members need to bring any equipment, seasonings or other items they need to cook their dishes,” CCFR Captain Brian Butts said in a press release. “It will be a great competition, neighbor against neighbor, to see who really makes the best barbecue.”

The professional KCBS Sanctioned Competition portion of Lakeside Que-Topia is expected to draw competitors from around the country, including the top three teams in the nation from 2010. Professional teams will compete to barbecue the pork, ribs, chicken and brisket with the best taste, appearance and texture. The winner of the competition will receive the chance to participate in Kansas City’s American Royal, the largest barbecue contest in the world.

Lakeside Que-Topia is being presented by The Rob Hamann Insurance Agency. All proceeds from the competition will benefit Central County Community Outreach, an organization that provides assistance to families in need along with conducting community education and outreach activities.
