On a warm Memorial Day morning in St. Peters a dozens showed up to City Hall to remember what the holiday really stands for.

Flags were everywhere at City Hall as the St. Peters Veterans Commission hosted the annual Memorial Day Remembrance Ceremony early Monday morning. Tiny American flags lined the veterans' memorials while a large flag connected by fire engine ladders from Central County Fire and Rescue  and the Cottleville Fire District flapped in the breeze.

The Patriot Guard Riders, new to the event this year, stood on a hill holding flags. Their motorcycles, left in the parking lot, had more flags on the patriotic holiday.

But Monday wasn't about flags large or small. As speaker after speaker reminded the packed crowd, today is about remembering the veterans who passed serving the country.

St. Peters Mayor Len Pagano , himself a veteran of both the Army and Navy, stressed the importance of remembering that today was about those who gave some, but even more so those who gave all.

Pagano was just one of the speakers at the event. Second Lieutenant Ben Shea of the United States Air Force and Gunnery Sergeant Jason P. Teets of the United State Marine Corp also addressed the crowd and thanked those who have served and made the ultimate sacrifice.

One highlight of the event was the swearing in of 21 new military recruits. Before taking off for boot camp, the 21 young men from around the region took the Oath of Enlistment. The new recruits are:
