Political Poll: Spence or Nixon, Who Has Your Vote?

If the election were held today, which Missouri Governor candidate would you vote for?

Three weeks from today the Missouri governor's race will come to an end.

In a race you can't miss given the amount of television ads, voters across the Show-Me State will get a chance to vote for new, or old, leadership in Jefferson City. Incumbent Democrat Jay Nixon is taking on Republican Dave Spence for the role of Missouri's governor.

The last time we looked at this race, Patch readers seemed to think Spence had the edge. In our poll, Spence picked up 64 percent of the vote to be Nixon, but that poll only had 17 total votes.

In the last month have things changed? Does Nixon have your vote? Are you leaning to the new guy Spence? Why?

Among the races in Missouri, this one seems to have less interest. Is that true? Are voters more interested in the Senate race between Todd Akin and Claire McCaskill?

Share your thoughts in the comments below and vote in the poll.

  • If the election were held today, Oct. 16, which candidate for Missouri Governor has your vote?

Nixon vetoed SB749, which passed both houses and protects our Religious Liberty here in Missouri. Thankfully, the veto was overridden in September. I can't support someone who will not protect our Religious Liberty.
If anyone is not familiar with this bill/veto/override, here is a good post:

If by religious liberty, you mean putting us all at the mercy of the most regressive, backward elements of organized religion - i.e. religious liberty but only for Southern Baptists and conservative Catholics et al, then why yes! Otherwise, hell NO.

If by progressive and forward thinking you mean forcing your choices onto others and trampling their right to freedom of religion without government intrusion then, hell NO. I'll throw my lot in with the religious zealots. If you want birth control pay for it yourself. Or learn how NOT to rub your private parts together, that works too. Have all the birth control, etc you want....on your own dime. Then you get to make your choice. Choose your doctor, choose your weapon. That is how freedom works. You choose to have it, I choose not to pay for it.

Elizabeth - perfectly stated. Birth control is not a right it is a personal responsiblity. You don't want to get pregnant than you take responsiblity for yourself. It's part of being an adult. The whole argument of not being able to afford birth control is lame, condoms are cheap and readily available.

I would add that abstinence is free.

The problem, Elizabeth, is that science backs up access to birth control. You can talk philosophy, religion, personal opinion till your larynx fails and your lungs stop pumping air. But in the end, science. Science. Math. Statistics. Evidence-based law. Contraception and/or abortion, insured, end of story. The fact is, I don't care what a particular religion says on the matter. I live my life to be fair, and good to my fellow man, and I have faith in God, but I do not allow a religious leader to tell me what that means. I, and I alone, define the terms of my faith. I care that 18 years after Roe v. Wade, a statistically significant decline in violent crime became apparent. I care that God made math and science, two of the most beautiful, awe-inspiring things in all of creation. I care that God gave me the capacity to weigh tradeoffs, even repugnant ones. Would I personally abort? Probably not. But then again, I'm not in a tenuous situation. I will not judge someone who does, and I absolutely support their access to abortion and birth control through insurers. I absolutely support funding for services such as Planned Parenthood. Screw the 12th century.

I support access too. No one is saying women shouldn't have access. Access and provided for free by someone else against their will are two completely different things.

Is someone forcing you to have an abortion yourself? No, they are not. End. Of. Story. Access means insurance.

If Obama and Nixon are elected we are stuck with Obamacare. Dave Spence is a good business man and can help create jobs. Nixon's lies about him being a banker and taking money are not true. If Nixon has to lie to win, he is loser.

The fact that 70% of Missouri voters are opposed to "Obamacare" only proves that 70% of Missouri voters would probably fail a reading comprehension and math test.
