Report: 7 Zumwalt East Students Suspended After Sex Act on a Bus
The St. Louis Post-Dispatch reports seven students have been suspended after students encouraged a special education student to masturbate on the bus.
Seven Fort Zumwalt East students have been suspended following an incident on a bus involving a special education student.
According to a report in the St. Louis Post-Dispatch, the students encouraged a special education student to masturbate on the bus while returning home from a canceled JV football game last Monday.
Fort Zumwalt Superintendent Bernard DuBray told the Post-Dispatch that the incident occurred after “some of the other kids goaded him on.”
The Post-Dispatch reports the other students recorded the incident on their cell phones, but DuBray said that the students deleted the pictures upon learning of the investigation.
As a result, seven students—including the special education student—were suspended. The Post-Dispatch reports the school was tipped off after an unnamed student contacted a St. Peters Police Officer working as a resource officer at the school. The officer informed the administration and an investigation ensued.
The Post-Dispatch report said the St. Peters Police Department also is investigating, but has yet to file charges.
DuBray told the Post-Dispatch that two adults were on the bus but did not know the incident was taking place.

It makes me sick to hear how these kids are acting. Not only should they be suspended. They should be charged with sexual harassment. This is getting out of hand and the punishments are not harsh enough. Come on !

If the real story was told it wouldn't look so bad for the seven students. This article makes it sound like they put him up to it. THEY DID NOT! And as for the 'two adults' that were on the bus. One was a football coach. He was sitting only three rows away from this. NOTHING has been done to him as of today. Shouldn't he be held accountable?!?! He was supposed to be watching the students. this supposedly went on for 10 minutes or so. There is no way that he couldnot have noticed something!!! What if the kids were doing something else? What great supervision these kids had. Oh yeah, and BOTh of the cameras on the bus just happen to be broken during the incedent. And the artcile didn't mention that there were cherrleaders on the bus that could have been subjected to this behavior because the coah was either too stupid to notice, or didn't care to stop it!!!!!!!

Since you seem to know so much about the indecent,, Maybe you could shed some light here and tell us why they watched it AND VIDEO TAPED IT. AND IF THE COACH WAS SO CLOSE, WHY DIDN'T ONE OF THESE LITTLE DARLINGS GET HIS ATTENTION AND REPORT IT???

I guess "discusted paerent" is raising one of this model citizen students. There is nothing that is ok about any of this coerced or not. I'm sure the school has a policy on sexual harassment. I'm positvie you also believe if a cheerleader was raped that her body has a way of preventing the pregnancy.... Scary that they let people raise kids who condone abhorrent behavior.
Are you kidding me?

This is absolutely ridiculous! I can't believe anyone would justify any of this. The coach should be fired as well as the students should be expelled.

I blame the parents 100% for doing a poor job of raising their kids that resulted in them thinking it was a good idea to take video of this incident instead of telling the adult who WAS ONLY THREE ROWS AWAY.

The fact that Sophomores & Juniors would be that immature and demented to do that to a special education student is truely disgusting. The amount of hatred I have for the students involved is indescribable. I personally work in a special education facility. The parents should feel like complete and total trash.

Have you ever tried to supervise teens on a dark bus while it is driving? I know the kids and the coach and the coach is an extremely caring teacher who was sitting between the boys and the girls, not letting them mix. Should the teacher be walking up and down the aisle as the bus moves at 60 mph? OR should he expect these almost adults to not do something horrible to or with their team mate? Or should he expect to be told something bad is happening? I think the next step is some serious counseling for these boys who have to come back to school at some point.

I agree with most of what you said Donna. The coach IS a careing teacher. The FACT is there are adults on the bus rides for a reason. What if this went on in a classroom and the teacher, for whatever reason just didn't look up? I am NOT excusing or condoning ANYTHING the students did!! But, if the coahe(s) had been paying atention, this might not have happened at all. A coach/teacher should not xpect the students to behave, or not do anything wrong. With that logic, take all of the staff OUT of the lunchroom during lunch, no need for a substitute when a teacher calls out, should tell the security guard to stay home, hall monitors won't be needed, don't pay any overtime for working at the home games, THESE ALMOST ADULTS ARE EXPECTED TO DO NOTHING WRONG. And YES, someone should have told the adults what was going on. NO ONE DID. And they were just as wrong for not trying to stop it. I hope I made a point. They are called 'minors', young aduls, kids, for a reason. MOST of them lack the maturity or the impulse control to not do stupid things.!

This entire incident is disgusting. The "typical" students should be EXPELLED. Only the lowest of the low pick on a special needs child. Just horrendous. Zumwalt School District could have made these kids as an example that bullying is not tolerated in their schools. Again, a school district that is not brave enough to do what is right. If I were a parent of ANY special needs child in Fort Zumwalt, I would be protesting the decisions made here, and by that I mean protesting outside of East High School and Central Office and demanding expulsion of the "typical" students involved in this incident.

Momof2: You obviously know nothing about kids with Aspergers. Generally kids with Aspergers are very smart, but have limited social/communication skills. When put in awkward/uncomfortable situations, they cannot defend for themselves verbally. They are generally immature and naive and are an easy target for bullies. Shame on you for your attitude against a victim.

Sandra. The fact is, he WAS NOT PUT IN THIS SITUATION! He started on his own, and continued on his own. There was no 'goading' or encouraging. There was not one student who put him up to it. They were WRONG for participating, but the NEVER started it, or 'bullyed' him into doing it. If someone has Apergers, you said yourself they are very smart but lack social and communication skills. Lacking social and communication skills is in NO WAY AN EXCUSE for doing what he did. He wasn't a 'special needs student' two weeks prior when he beat another student up and was suspended for it, and he wasn't a 'special needs student' when he made the football team and learned positions and plays, and even got some playing time.

One more comment to Sandra... If lacking social and communication skills make someone 'special' then I guess most teenagers should be classified as special.

What those boys did was awful!! Whether the Special Ed student started on his own or not, the boys should've told one of the Staff members or one of the adults on the bus.
There is more than one issue going on in this situation and everybody can pick it apart and blame the other person but those Football Players were flat out wrong and perverted for taking pictures and video taping.

I happened to have been on the bus at the time sitting right next to the coaches and NObody suspected or knewthat anyhting was going on that was inapropreate. I dont jnow what you guys think you know but you need to get your storys stright. Both of the coachs are respectable teachers. By no means are they STUPID! None of the cheerleaders knew what was happening and i am certain that if they did they would have brought attention to the problem. The coaches did NOTHING wrong and should not be held responsable for any of the blame. The footbal players were wrong to have egged there teammate on but, in the same respect i believe he didnt not know what they were telling him to do was wrong in anyway.
