Spencer Road Branch Library to Close Saturday
St. Peters branch is closing as work on new building nears completion.
The books and staff at the Spencer Road Branch of St. Charles City-County Library District is preparing to move.
Rising above the current building is a brand new facility. Over time, the new building has dwarfed the current library. With most of the work done to the new library, it's time to prepare a move next door.
Beginning this Saturday, Sept. 17, the Spencer Road Branch will close to prepare for the moved. The branch will reopen early 2012, this time in the new building.
The library district is encouraging patrons to visit the other nearby branches. The four closest libraries are:
- McClay Branch - 2760 McClay Road, St. Charles 63303
- Kisker Road Branch - 1000 Kisker Road, St. Charles 63304
- Middendorf-Kredell Branch - 2750 Hwy K, O'Fallon 63368
- Kathryn Linnemann Branch - 2323 Elm Street, St. Charles 63301
Any materials checked out at any branch can be returned at any branch of the St. Charles City-County Library District. Customers may also renew materials online using their library account accessible from the library homepage at www.youranswerplace.org.
Once the Spencer Road Branch is emptied, contractors will demolish the old branch, remove debris from the site, complete the covered walkway to the new building, install the outdoor patio, and regrade and surface the entire parking lot. Weather permitting, the outdoor portion of the project should take two to three months.
While the building will close Saturday, the book drop at the old Spencer Road Branch location will be open until Oct. 10.
