Fox2 Video: Man Shot, Killed After Shooting St. Charles County Deputies

After an early-morning manhunt, suspect Richard Heeter stabbed a third officer who tried to apprehend him.

Fox2 News reported that a suspect who shot two St. Charles sheriff's deputies and was the subject of a manhunt this morning is now dead.

St. Charles County Sheriff Tom Neer said that Richard Heeter, 61, from the Wentzville area, shot at sheriff's deputies in an area near Sommers Road and Hwy. N near the Lake Saint Louis/O'Fallon border.

The deputies returned fire. One deputy was shot in the wrist, and the other was shot in the arm. Heeter escaped and a manhunt of the area continued until he was located just after 5:30 a.m. in the same area as the shootings.

The suspect refused to comply with officers and stabbed a tactical officer in the shoulder. Other officers then shot and killed Heeter.

All three injured officers were taken to hospitals and treated.

Sounds like suicide by cop to me. Wish more criminals would go that route!

It's very unfortunate the officers were injured, but in the end, the good guys won. Good job guys, and heal quickly. Praying for your quick recovery.

Police Officers never know what lurks around the next corner. We can curse them at times yet we become extremely greatful when we really need them.

My questions: What led the officers to be on the scene in the first place and Plz someone explain to me: why couldn't this 61 yr old man be subdued by 30 yr old cops??? They needed SWAT to come in??? Sounds kinda fishy to me... but guess it's just me, eh?

Anne, report of gun fire in this area called in to Police. 2nd., Question. 61 year old with gun in hand can be any age that he wants to be. Police do no wish to aid any one bent on dying. If the Police had used their Batons on this guy, people similar to you would be shouting " Police Brutality ".
