Zumwalt South Alum Selected by Royals in MLB Draft
Fred Ford, a 2010 graduate at Fort Zumwalt South, was selected by the Kansas City Royals in the seventh round of the Major League Baseball First-Year Player Draft.
Fred Ford's baseball career is staying in the state of Missouri.
The Kansas City Royals selected the former Fort Zumwalt South prep star in the seventh round (223rd overall) of the 2012 Major League Baseball First-Year Player Draft. After helping the Bulldogs win the 2009 State Championship, Ford graduated in 2010 and has spent the last two season playing for Jefferson College in Missouri.
Ford had huge numbers for Jefferson College this season. He hit .432 with a .529 on-base percentage. He hit 13 homers and had 68 RBIs for the Vikings.
Ford is listed on the Jefferson College website as an infielder/catcher, but the Royals have listed him as an outfielder. The St. Louis Post-Dispatch reported Ford, who hasn't played the outfield since his days as a Bulldog, will report to the Royals with the intention of roaming the outfield.
At Zumwalt South, Ford was first team All-Metro and GAC South player of the year. During his senior year, Ford hit .424 with seven home runs and 33 RBIs.
