Five days of fun, 4-H and Ferris wheels came to an end as the 2011 St. Charles County Fair ended Saturday night. Excessive heat warnings were in effect each day of the fair, making for a hot and muggy fair. Mother Nature also threw a lightning strike in on Saturday to make for a really eventful fair. Saturday morning's baby contest at the St. Charles County Fair drew a huge crowd to Rotary Park. 92 babies were entered in the event. The contest was open to residents of St. Charles County. Babies were required to wear a white onesie or white t-shirt and diaper only, and were judged on a 1-5 scale for personality, alertness and cuteness. The event offered four divisions: Birth to 3 months. Winners: Lucy from St. Paul and Nicholas from Foristell 4 months to 8 months. According to reports, two people were shocked by a lightning strike on Saturday at the St. Charles County Fair. KPLR-TV in St. Louis reports that lightning that accompanied an early-morning storm hit a tree at the Rotary Park Fairground in Wentzville. The strike sent a shockwave through electrical lines and hit two people. A report on KMOV.com said the two people sustained "minor" injuries. One person denied treatment and the other was taken to a hospital, but was later released. No other injuries were reported, according to KMOV. Nine-year-old Tyler Snyders, of St. Charles, scrubbed the back of his all-black Angus steer in the late afternoon heat Wednesday at the St. Charles County Fair. The massive animal needed a bath before Tyler would walk him around the ring in front of the judges. This was Tyler's first experience caring for and showing a steer at the St. Charles County Fair. During the past year, Tyler said he learned quite about about what it takes to care for the animal he named "Ferb." Despite the heat on Tuesday night, a large crowd gathered for the opening of the St. Charles County Fair at Rotary Park in Wentzville. Some fair goers enjoyed rides and cotton candy, while others prepared for the the night's shows, including the swine judging and Fair Queen Coronation. Rotary Park in Wentzville hosted the St. Charles County Fair antique tractor pull on Tuesday night. Tractors ranged from antiques to souped up models with chrome wheels and paint jobs that the NASCAR circuit would be proud of. Youngsters took the wheel in the Class 1 division which featured eight horsepower lawn tractors with a 900-pound weight limit. These machines did not lack flair or power and made their way down the track lined with cheering parents and spectators.
