Family Plans Benefit in St. Peters to Support O'Fallon Marine

Friends and family are coming together to support a local Marine in need.

Sgt. Kyle Aslin, 25, of O'Fallon, suffered a massive stroke in early August and now he and his wife Stephanie are struggling to pay medical bills. 

Aslin's mother-in-law Caroline Kemper said the Marine, who served two tours in Iraq before entering the reserves, still has a long road to recovery.

Kemper said Aslin had a blood clot that resulted in the stroke and he was in the Intensive Care Unit for 13 days this summer, undergoing two surgeries and 13 days in rehab before coming home last week.

"He currently is in rehab and my daughter is on family medical leave from Barnes St. Peters Hospital," Kemper said in an email to O'Fallon Patch.

Aslin still has two surgeries to undergo for his full recovery, yet he has no medical insurance.

Friends and family have organized a "Marine Sgt. Aslin Support Benefit" on Oct. 7, from 11 a.m. to midnight at Shamrocks Bar and Grill in St. Peters. Shamrocks will donate 15 percent of the days proceeds to help the Aslin family. The benefit includes 50/50 drawings, raffles and a general goodwill collection. All proceeds will benefit the Aslins with their growing medical expenses.

Shamrocks Pub and Grill is located at 4177 Veterans Memorial Drive in St. Peters. Private donations and donations for the raffle are still being collected.

With the help of his family and friends, Aslin is determined to make a full recovery.

"He is just a phenomenal young man; he has always made us proud and he has always been our hero," Aslin's mother Barb said in a news release.
