Week in Review: MoDOT Closing Part of Veterans Memorial, Freddy's Now Open and More

In case you missed them, here were some of the top headlines from the St. Peters Patch from the last few days.

MoDOT Closing Lane of Veterans Memorial Parkway for 3 Months
  • The left lane of Veterans Memorial Parkway will be closed for three months starting Monday. The Missouri Department of Transportation will close the left lane of Veterans Memorial Parkway, south of I-70 starting Monday, June 24, weather permitting. The lane closure on the parkway—also known as the South Service Road—will  last for approximately three months. MoDOT will start the closure at 9 a.m. 
Shamrock's Fire Caused by Cleaning Chemicals and Towels
  • Central County Fire and Rescue said the June 11 fire at Shamrock's Pub and Grill in St. Peters was likely caused by cleaning chemicals mixed with towels and rags. The fire, which caused $25,000 worth of damage, was contained to a storage room at the restaurant. After reviewing security footage of the incident, CCFR said in a release that a pile of towels that had been removed from the dryer and placed on a counter suddenly caught fire. 
St. Peters Man Seriously Injured Following Single-Car Crash
  • James B. Wilhelm, 55, was taken to Progress West by St. Charles County Ambulance following a single-car crash on westbound Missouri Route 94 west of Mid Rivers Mall Drive. The crash occurred just after 9:30 a.m. According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol, Wilhelm was heading west when he began to experience a "medical condition." Wilhelm then drove off the left side of road and struck the ground. 
Freddy's Frozen Custard Now Open in St. Peters
  • Freddy's Frozen Custard is open for business. St. Peters' newest restaurant opened to customers June 11. Freddy's, known for its custard and steakburgers is a Midwest chain and the St. Peters location at 1365 Jungermann Road is the first restaurant in the St. Louis region.
