More Parking, Shuttles for Celebrate St. Peters 2013

City crews are putting in additional parking lots to serve the 15,000 people expected at the two-day event.

Attendees heading to Celebrate St. Peters Sept. 20 and 21 will have a better chance at finding a parking space this year.

"We have stepped it up this year," Communications Director Lisa Bedian said. "We're running twice the amount of shuttle buses."

The city is adding additional parking spaces outside of 370 Lakeside Park for a total of 4,000 for the event.

The city plans to pour a parking surface on the extension of Spencer Road near the park and at the intersection of Premier Parkway and Truman Road which will provide another 1,000 parking space. In addition, the city is putting in two new lots inside the park that will eventually become pads for pavilions.

About 1,200 spaces will be available in the park, 500 of which will be "reserved spaces" available for purchase. Tickets must be purchased in advance at St. Peters City Hall or at the Rec Plex.

St. Peters residents can buy a reserved space for $20 and nonresidents can buy a space for $25. The space is for the length of the two-day event, which will allow people to come and go.

"You can park on Friday night and come back on Saturday whenever you want," she said. "It's nice for people who want to come and go and will help us pay for the extra shuttle buses."

Bedian said last year some 15,000 people attended the event. This year, the city is planning for 15,000 to 20,000 depending on weather.

This will be the fourth year for Celebrate St. Peters and the third year at Lakeside 370 Park. The event features 17 carnival rides, live music, a children's stage, vendor booths, foods and games run by nonprofit organizations.

"We're trying to do something that's going to be a win for the whole community," she said. "They have a good time, have a safe place to come and have entertainment and stuff for the kids."
