The Painted Zebra: Crafty Ideas for Any Occasion

What do you get the mother that has everything for Mother's Day? The painted Zebra offers over 180 items to paint and customize your own unique design.

This was not the first time the Haines had been in The , but today they had a purpose.

“We’re making things for Mother’s Day,” enthusiastic Taylor Haines, 13, called out while touching up the blue paint left over from her coffee pot’s stenciled flower.

Her grandmother lightheartedly corrected her, “Nana’s day.”

The Painted Zebra is ceramic art haven right down Mid Rivers Mall Drive. It carries more than 180 pre-made ceramic items ranging from functional kitchenware to sentimental keepsakes.

There is a flat studio fee of $6 for children and $8 for adults. However, that’s a small price to pay for a customizable creation of art. The studio fee includes materials—paint brushes, stencils, a hefty selection of paint hues, and professional glaze finish and fire. The hard part is waiting four days to pick it up.

The Painted Zebra yields a supportive atmosphere where anyone can create a work of art no matter their age or skill level.

Picking up an impressive rainbow fish, eight-year employee Gwen Lane said, “The great thing is that you don’t have to have any real experience. This was made by an eight-year-old boy.”

Across the room Michelle Jacobs helps her son Chase, 4, and the neighbor she watches Renee Davis, finish their creations. Renee chose to paint a lidded cupcake, while Chase concentrated on his blue and red truck.

With the store being open seven days a week, it’s a fun and creative place to take the kids on early dismissals and faculty meeting days.

The Jacobs had never been there before, but Renee said that it was a fun place to take Chase since he was off school that day.

The Painted Zebra is not only great for mother’s day or a fun activity on your day off, they also offer a full calendar of events and discounts. This will mark the second year that it is hosting four four day summer camp sessions and this hidden gem also offer group rates for parties of six and up.

“We really didn’t know about this place until [Taylor] attended a birthday party here,” mother Stephanie Davis said, “Now, we come here quite a bit.”

From wedding plates and mother’s day gifts to french fry piggy banks, the Painted Zebra has something for every occasion and each individual. Create a customizable creation Monday through Saturday 10 a.m. to 7 p.m., Friday from 10 a.m. until 9 p.m., and Sunday noon to 5 p.m. The store will be closed on mother’s day.
