Young St. Peters Drummer Set To Tour Europe This Summer

Tito Pascoal, 16, of St. Peters will tour Europe this summer and return home in time to attend St. Charles Community College.

St. Peters resident and young drummer Tito Pascoal is gearing up for a European summer tour to promote his newest project.

The 16-year-old Pascoal said his second album will differ from his first, which came out when he was only 12, in that this album is not something he did with his band. Instead, he worked with his dad on his new project.

The young musician said he got his start on the piano, which he started playing at 5, but said he took a break from piano when he got his first drum set at age 6.  When asked why he went from piano to the drums, his answer makes it clear he was a percussionist from a young age.

“Because I was drumming on everything around the house,” he said with a laugh.

Pascoal plays other instruments as well, and he said lately he’s been spending more time on piano, bass and guitar. While he may have musicality and talent with multiple instruments, the musician said he doesn’t sing.

“You don’t want to hear my voice,” the drummer joked.

The Portugal-born performer said music runs in his family and he has learned a lot from his father, Tim, who is also a piano player, taught him how to play music. In addition to being a musician, Pascoal said his father also produces music, and he was very well known as a band director in Portugal.

“His dad really brought Tito on the music scene, he always believed in him and he’s been able to direct Tito in how to play,” said Tito’s mom, Cristina.

In addition to his father’s musical skills, his uncle plays bass, and his older sister, Rachel, sings and plays piano.

Playing music and travelling for tours at such a young age has made traditional schooling rather difficult. Pascoal said he was homeschooled throughout high school and finished his studies early when he graduated last year.

The musician said he definitely wants to go to college and is starting in the fall at St. Charles Community College to get his general education. Once he has finished there, he hopes to be off to Boston to attend Berklee College of Music. Tito’s father also attended the college and it is noted as one of the most prestigious music colleges in the world.

Before he starts college this fall, the drummer is headed to Europe on tour to promote his second, as yet to be titled album.
