Patch Pick'em: Mother-in-Law House vs. Old Mill Stream; Madison's vs. Ethyl's

This week, Patch sites across St. Charles County launched the Patch Pick'em tournament to find the best local restaurant in the area!

Patch Pick'em runs along the same lines as the much-hyped college basketball tournament, except it uses local restaurants instead of college basketball squads. 

All matchups were found by creating a randomized list via random.org.

How do restaurants advance? It all depends on your vote—on all four St. Charles County Patch sites, their Facebook pages and Twitter feeds.

Mother-in-Law House vs. Old Mill Stream

Mother-in-Law House Set in a building that was built in 1866 and dubbed as the first brick double house, this restaurant has a quaint indoor setting along with a gorgeous tree-covered outdoor patio with a view of the Missouri River. It serves lunch and dinner with a three hour lull in between. The menu offers items such as the half-pound burger, the Mother-In-Law combo of half a sandwich and choice of salad, soup or french fries, chicken cordon bleu, filet mignon and stuffed flounder. An extensive wine list is also available.

Old Mill StreamThe Old Mill Stream Inn is a restaurant located on South Main Street in historic downtown St. Charles. It features an upstairs bar and dining room, a downstairs bar, and a large patio. The upstairs bar and dining room is nonsmoking and serves lunch and dinner Tuesday through Sunday. The outdoor patio features beautiful landscaping and firepits. The Old Mill Stream Inn is noted for offering over 130 different beers.

Parrot's vs. Hatfield's & McCoy's

Parrot's: Parrot's is a sports bar and grill that offers a wide variety of daily specials. Lunch specials run from 11am to 3pm and happy hour boasts bottles of beer for $2.25 and $2.50 well drinks. Parrot's offers nighttime DJs, bands on Fridays and other special events.

Hatfield's & McCoy'sHatfield's & McCoy's is a popular Southern-style restaurant where you will find catfish, chicken strips, shrimp, barbecued beef and pork and fried pickles and zucchini, as well as traditional sides such as cole slaw and beans. A kids menu and senior meals are also available. Live entertainment is offered on Monday evenings from 6:15 to 8:15 p.m.

Ethyl's Smokehouse vs. Madison's Cafe

Ethyl's SmokehouseThis restaurant's long, rich history dates back to 1926. Since then it has had many owners and many names. Holding true to its heritage, Ethyl's offers a variety of smoked meats, hamburgers and sandwiches. There are also plenty of appetizers, sides and desserts. From time to time, the restaurant has live entertainment on weekends.

Madison's Cafe: Madison's Cafe, conveniently located on the corner of Highways K and N behind Walgreens, boasts the longest happy hour in town, from 4pm to 9pm Monday through Friday. Its cozy atmosphere and reasonable prices makes it a great dining place for families as well as groups. Madison's also offers catering and a banquet room which seats up to 40 people. Brunch is offered on Sundays from 10am to 2pm.

Donatelli's Bistro vs. Fritz's

Donatelli'sDonatelli's Bistro was established in 2006 and offers Italian cuisine in an intimate but lively setting. Donatelli's boasts casual fine dining, patio seating and a wine bar that will open in October 2010. Donatelli's also provides live music.

Fritz'sFritz's Frozen Custard is made with all natural ingredients and high standards of quality. Wentzville's Fritz's is the second franchise of the five stores now in operation. It offers the original 90 percent fat free vanilla and for calorie watchers there is a lighter version that is 95 percent fat free. Fritz's features a different flavor each day and customers can even go online to check the schedule of their website.
