Are Coyotes a Problem in St. Peters?

Missouri Department of Conservation is investigating an incident in Hazelwood; says coyote sightings are common.

A Schnauzer-poodle mix died Sunday after it was attacked by a coyote in Hazelwood, and now the Missouri Department of Conservation is working with local police to find the wild animal.

Coyotes are primarily carnivores who prefer to eat rodents and rabbits, but they also will eat fruit and insects, according to the Missouri Department of Conservation.

However, when food is scare, small, domesticated animals are an appealing option.

Most of the time, coyote encounters with people are brief. Have you seen coyotes near your house?

I saw one the other day crossing the highway while on my way to El Maguey, I wondered if it was a fox, coyote or some other type of animal that will end up as roadkill on the highway?

I saw one tonight near Jungerman and 94. It was crossing McClay road. I thought it was a dog at first but it was moving more like a cat. I put my brights on and when I drove past, it stopped and stared right at me. Creepy indeed!

I live off Harvest Road and 94 in the Sugarwood Condominiums. I found my dog out back trying to make babies with a coyote. She seemed very friendly and wanted to come in my home, but she was easy to scare off. She seemed to have a stray dog hanging out with her too.
