Getting Bigger: Census Numbers Reveal Small Population Growth in St. Peters

The United States Census number for 2010 were released on Thursday and St. Peters

Detailed numbers from the 2010 census show a growing St. Peters and St. Charles County.

St. Peters grew by 1,194 people from 2000 to 2010, according to US Census Data released Thursday afternoon. The 2.3 percent jump in population pushes St. Peters to 52,575 people. Despite the growth, St. Peters dropped from the 9th largest incorporated city to a tie for No. 10 with Blue Springs City.

Nearby O'Fallon was the big gainer, moving up from 13th place to 7th in 2010 with a 71.8 percent jump in population.

Missouri grew by 393,716—a seven percent increase.and St. Charles County grew by 76,602 people to a grand total of 360,485—a 27 percent jump.

St. Peters Mayor Len Pagano could not be reached for comment this afternoon. He was out of his office preparing for the Thursday night Board of Alderman meeting.

The picture is not as rosy for the state of Missouri overall. Although the state grew in population by seven percent, it was not enough to prevent the . The state will in the US House of Representatives. 

St. Louis city saw declines of eight percent, dropping the population to 319,000. St. Louis Mayor Francis Slay was disappointed in the low numbers. St. Louis County dropped two percent, which dropped the population of the county to under a million people.
