The Missouri Department of Transportation is making a final push toward the Nov. 2 closure of the westbound Blanchette Bridge in St. Charles.
Just a week after the eastbound lanes were closed, MoDOT crews will be doing significant work this weekend to on the westbound lanes. To prepare for the bridge closure, three lanes on westbound Interstate 70 at Earth City Expressway/Route 141 will be closed from 8 p.m. Friday, Oct 26 until 5 a.m. Sunday, Oct. 28. Even with the closures, at least two westbound lanes will remain open to traffic throughout the weekend.
In addition to the lane closures, the ramps at Earth City Expressway/Route 141 and westbound I-70 will also be shut down. The ramps will be closed from 8 p.m. Friday, Oct. 26 until 8 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 28.
MoDOT is encouraging motorists to use alternate routes, such as taking Interstate 270 to either Route 370 or Route 364 to access Earth City Expressway/Route 141.
The ramp from southbound I-270 to westbound I-70 will close at 10 p.m. Friday, Oct. 26 for several hours overnight.
MoDOT crews will be restriping the westbound I-70 lanes and putting in a barrier wall to separate the lanes of I-70 with the exit lanes of Earth City in preparation for the closure of the Blanchette Bridge.
Beginning Monday, Oct. 29, motorists using westbound I-70 will see the newly installed barrier wall separating three lanes on the left from one lane on the right. Westbound I-70 will be reduced from five lanes to four lanes and motorists should consider using Route 370 or Route 364 as alternate westbound Missouri River crossings.
All the work is being done to prepare for the closure of the westbound I-70 Blanchette Bridge the first weekend of November. The bridge will remain closed for less than a year. The eastbound I-70 bridge will be used to carry three lanes of traffic in each direction. Immediately off the end of the bridge there will be pavement in the median to move the three westbound lanes back over to the normal westbound pavement.
