Now Open: Spencer Road Library Finally Ready for Business

The newest library in the St. Charles City-County Library District officially opened on Wednesday, March 21, 2012.

Fortunately for the staff at the new , the new parking lot has plenty of spaces. Nearly all were needed on Wednesday.

Most the of 140-plus parking spaces—more than double what was available at the old library—were filled with cars as visitors filed into the new library on its opening day. After two years of construction, the finishing touches were made and the doors opened at 9 a.m.

Around noon the library was filled in all areas. Some visitors were just checking out the new digs while others were checking out books. Some were just using the new upstairs computer lab. No matter what, day one was a hit.

Prior to the big opening, the St. Charles City-County Library Foundation hosted a fundraising event on Tuesday that also doubled as preview event. Patrons who donated to the foundation got to learn about the funding behind the library——and get an early tour while dining on snacks.

A formal ribbon-cutting ceremony is scheduled for 4 p.m. April 10.
