Update: Utility Work Will Cause Lane Closures on the Blanchette Bridge Monday

The utility work is prep for the major project later in 2012.

Update: Utility work on the Blanchette Bridge will begin Monday, Jan. 9 that will cause lane closures on eastbound Interstate 70.

The work is being done as worker are gearing up the scheduled on the westbound I-70 scheduled for later this year—no start date has been given for the beginning of the rehab project. Work will begin this year and end in 2013. 

Sunday's work will move utilities off the westbound bridge and place them on the eastbound bridge. The work, which will from Jan. 8 to Jan. 12, will include the following closures:

  • Sun, Jan 8, one lane closed eastbound at 7 p.m. until 5 a.m. A second lane and both of the Fifth Street ramps to eastbound I-70 will close at 8 p.m.
  • Mon, Jan 9 through Thur, Jan 12, one lane closed eastbound I-70 at 8 p.m. until 5 a.m. A second lane and both of the Fifth Street ramps to eastbound I-70 will close at 9 p.m.

Similar nightly lane closures on the bridge could occur each week, Sunday through Thursday nights, weather permitting, until late March.

The Fifth Street ramp closures will be limited. When the Fifth Street ramps to eastbound I-70 are closed, motorists will be detoured to use Veterans Parkway (the south outer road) west to the Route 94/First Capitol Drive interchange to access eastbound I-70.
