Circle K Moves Forward With Plan to Re-Open After January Fire

  • roning out the design of one side of the building was the lone hiccup for Circle K in its quest to re-open the fire-damaged convenience store. Two-and-a-half months after a fire significantly damaged the roof and the interior of the building,  Circle K, located at the intersection of Mexico and Spencer Roads, was in front of the St. Peters Planning and Zoning Commission on Wednesday. Because the store originally opened before city codes changed and because the fire was so damaging, the city required Circle K to run the gamut like it was a new business. Part of that process required applying for a special use permit and presenting and updated site plan to the commission. 

St. Peters Menards Picks April 9 for Opening Day

  • When Menards first came to St. Peters to begin the process of opening a store, the store targeted a spring 2013 opening. Menards made it official that the store would open on time. The new hardware store on Spencer Road is set to open bright and early at 6:30 a.m. Tuesday, April 9. Menards will be open from 6:30 a.m. to 10 p.m. on Monday to Saturday and from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. on Sunday. 

Teaching Student from St. Peters Accused of Faking Cancer Pleads Guilty on Fraud Charge

  • A Truman State University student from St. Peters accused of faking cancer admitted to forgery on Monday. Victoria Ann Marut, 23, pleaded guilty to claims she faked a doctor's signature she used to dupe school officials into believing she was battling cancer. According to the St. Louis Post-Dispatch, Marut is scheduled to be sentenced June 3 in Adair County Circuit Court in Kirksville and prosecutors are recommending probation.

Violet Retains Ward 3 Seat With Win Against Walker

  • The third time turned out to be the charm forTerri Violet. After coming up short in back-to-back elections for a seat serving Ward 3 on the St. Peters Board of Aldermen, Violet was the big winner in Tuesday's municipal elections. With all 9 precincts reporting, Violet defeated her challenger, Michelle Walker, 785 (56.23 percent) to 607 (43.48 percent).

  • In the April 2 election voters in Francis Howell keep on the incumbents while voters in Fort Zumwalt pass a no-tax increase bond issue.
