Make Memories While Preserving Memories

Let your creativity flow with a scrapbooking weekend.

A couple of times a year, a friend of mine begins chatting me up about joining her for a weekend scrapbooking event.

I’ve never gotten into the scrapbooking craze. I tried, but the pages I created never turned out as nice as the templates and lately I just haven’t had the time or energy. Still, I would watch longingly as she and a few of our neighbors packed into her minivan and left their families behind for three whole days, off to scrapbook with First Class Scraps.

First Class Scraps was started by Mary Jo Long and Maureen Hart, two friends who loved to get together to work on their family scrapbooks. They like to share and now offer scrapbooking events where women can get together and share ideas, tools, tips, and lots of laughs.

The next event is the themed scrapbooking weekend “Christmas in July”. It runs from 9 a.m. on Friday, July 15 through 4 p.m. Sunday, July 17 at the Drury Plaza Hotel in Chesterfield.

The cost for the weekend getaway is $185 which includes: a personal six-foot table where you can spread out and work, onsite scrapbook shopping, breakfast on Saturday and Sunday, free fountain drinks and popcorn daily, happy hour and snacks on Friday and Saturday, and your hotel room for Friday and Saturday night. Plus there will be giveaways, contests, and door prizes.

All you need to bring are your photographs and scrapbooking supplies. There will also be tools available for you to use such as a Cricut Personal Cutter and Cartridges, a wide variety of paper punches, stamps, tearing tools, and a laptop and printer.

For a little extra you can splurge on a chair massage. A massage therapist will be available to work out those stiff shoulders from all that stamping and cutting. Or you can take a break and jump in the hotel’s whirlpool which is included in your price.

Sharing and laughter—what a girl’s weekend should be all about.
