Car Crash Leads to DWI Arrest in Town and Country

Police and fire crews reportedly responded to the scene to find the wrecked car vacant and the driver and passenger hiding nearby.

The following information was supplied by the Town and Country Police Department.

One person was arrested for DWI after a car accident off Highway 40 in Town and Country.

Town and Country police tell Patch, the accident happened just after 11 p.m. Monday along westbound Highway 40 before Maryville Center Drive.

Authorities said the driver lost control of the car then over corrected, which caused the vehicle to skid off the highway coming to rest in a drainage culvert between the interstate and North Outer 40 Road, in front of West County Assembly of God Church.

The driver and passenger reportedly then fled the scene.

Police said when emergency crews arrived on the scene, the car was unoccupied, however, a firefighter saw one if the suspects peer out from a storage area at the church. The firefighter yelled at the suspects who both the ran behind the church, investigators said.

A Town and Country police officer reportedly saw the suspects run into a small wooded area, located them and, with the help of another officer, was able to help take them both into custody.

Authorities said the driver refused a breath test and was charged with DWI, leaving the scene of an accident, improper lane usage and providing false information because he initially denied being the driver of the car.

Police said no one was injured and the passenger was released.
