Matthew A. Faupel was charged with burglary, domestic assault and property damage.

A St. Louis County man is accused of breaking into his wife’s St. Peters apartment and assaulting her.

Matthew Aaron Faupel, 30, of the 1200 block of Chambers Road in Dellwood, was charged Aug. 2 with second-degree burglary, third-degree domestic assault and second-degree property damage.

When she would not answer the door, Faupel entered through an unlocked sliding glass door, police said. Inside the home, he grabbed his wife by her neck, put her in a headlock and began punching her repeatedly in the face, according to a police statement.

The woman told police Faupel fled when her friend came out of the bathroom. Police said Faupel slashed a tire on his wife’s vehicle before driving away.
