Man Confesses to Several Thefts, Burglaries in St. Peters and O'Fallon, Police Say

St. Peters Police said they recovered several stolen items after Stephan Michael Keckler admitted to a burglary and stealing items from cars in St. Peters and O'Fallon.

A man is charged with burglarizing a St. Peters home and stealing golf equipment. St. Peters Police said the man admitted to additional thefts, and stolen items were recovered at his mother’s house and his father’s house.

Stephan Michael Keckler, 25, of the 1400 block of Carnagie Drive in St. Peters, was charged Aug. 22 with second-degree burglary and felony theft.

St. Peters Police said Keckler entered a garage in the 500 block of Pioneer Drive in St. Peters and stole a golf bag with golf clubs valued at more than $700. The golf clubs were recovered in his father’s home.

Police said Keckler admitted to “numerous thefts” and possessing two firearms while on probation for stealing a motor vehicle. Keckler pleaded guilty in May 2011 to stealing a car.

He also admitted to stealing two shotguns from two vehicles in St. Peters and O’Fallon. He told police he hid the shotguns in his mother’s garage. During a home search, police found several stolen power tools and GPS units, which Keckler said were stolen from cars in St. Peters and O’Fallon.

Keckler told police he steals to support his drug addiction.

Keckler is being held in St. Charles County jail. Bail was set at $25,000, cash only. Keckler is on probation after he He also has other theft and drug-related convictions.
