Police: Man Beat Girlfriend, Refused to Let Her Leave

The man was charged with domestic assault and felonius restraint.

A man was charged with striking his girlfriend repeatedly and refusing to let her leave their home in St. Peters for three hours July 20.

Joshua O’Very, 34, of the first block of Calypso Court in St. Peters, was charged Wednesday with third-degree domestic assault and felonious restraint.

St. Peters Police said that O’Very pushed the woman into a hallway, spit in her face multiple times, hit her in the face with a rolled up newspaper, and when she ran to her car to get away, he caught her and punched her in the back of the head multiple times.

Police said the man took her purse, car keys and cell phone and prevented her from leaving numerous times.

The woman had visible injuries to her head and chest, according to the report.

Prosecutors said in court documents that O’Very had been convicted of two previous domestic assault charges. One of the convictions was in September 2010 against the same woman, and the second one was in 2004 against another woman.

Bond was set at $15,000 cash only.
