Retired Police Officer Charged After Sending Explicit Pictures

Richard L. Hays, 47, of the 6100 block of State Route 162 in Maryville, Ill., was charged Wednesday in St. Charles County with felony sexual misconduct involving a child under 15.

The St. Charles County Sheriff's Department arrested a retired police officer for sending pictures of his genitals to an officer posing as an underage girl. 

Richard L. Hays, 47, of the 6100 block of State Route 162 in Maryville, Ill., was charged Wednesday in St. Charles County with felony sexual misconduct involving a child under 15.

Hays told told the Madison County Sheriff's Department during an interview on Tuesday, Dec. 4, that he was a retired police officer from the Pontoon Beach Police Department and has worked for the St. Jacobs Police Department approximately a year ago.

According to the probable cause statement, Hays, using the handle "Supercop069" in a Yahoo! chat room initiated a conversation with a user named "daddyslttgrrl." The person behind the "daddyslttgrrl" account was actually a officer with St. Charles County's cyber crimes unit. 

The officer told Hays "she" was 13-year-old and Hays continued the conversation. He then sent two photos of his genitals to the officer.

During an interview with Madison County Sheriff's Department, Hays admitted to being the person behind the "Supercop069" account. He also admitted to chatting with "daddyslttgrrl" and that she told him she was 13. He told police he sent the girl pictures of his genitals—pictures that were later found on his computer by police. 

Bail was set at $25,000 and Hays was ordered to have no unsupervised contact with anyone younger than 15.
