St. Peters Mother Opened Gash in 9-Year-Old's Head With Thrown Can, Police Say

St. Peters Police said Gina Grzeskowiak had two other instances of striking or bruising her daughter and endangered her 5-month-old baby by not using a seatbelt on the car seat.

A St. Peters woman is accused of throwing a can of baby formula at her 9-year-old daughter, opening a gash in the girl’s forehead. The woman also faces other abuse and child endangerment choices.

Gina Louise Grzeskowiak, 38, of the 100 block of Meadow Ridge Court in St. Peters, was charged Friday with three counts of child abuse and one count of child endangerment.

St. Peters Police said Grzeskowiak was charged with three cases of abuse for the following incidents:

  • On June 10 punched her 9-year-old daughter in the face and pulled her hair
  • On July 17, threw a can of baby formula at her 9-year-old daughter while in the car, striking her in the forehead and causing a gash in the child’s head
  • Between July 22 and July 25, bruised both her 9-year-old daughter’s arms by grabbing one arm and hit her in the left arm.

Police said she also had her 5-month-old child unrestrained on the floor of her vehicle on Thursday in the 4000 block of Cloverleaf Drive South. Police said an officer saw her take the child from the floor of the car. The child was in a car seat but was not restrained by a seatbelt, the officer said.

Police said the 9-year-old girl told a family friend that Grzeskowiak threw a can of baby formula at her in the car, hitting her in the forehead. Police found white powder on the vehicle’s floor, believed to be baby formula, and blood on the passenger seat, seatbelt and door.

Police said that Grzeskowiak was drunk while caring for her 13-, 9- and 4-month-old children on June 10. Police said the girl told police Grzeskowiak punched her in the face and pulled her hair. Officers said the girl had numerous bruises and scratches.

According to a court document, Grzeskowiak admitted bruising the girl’s right arm by grabbing her too hard, but denied causing the open wound on her forehead or the bruise on her left arm.  

Grzeskowiak is being held in the St. Charles County jail. Bail was set at $20,000 and she is to have no contact with her children.
