St. Peters Woman Had 12-Year-Old Brother Receive Pot Delivery, Police Say

Drug Task Force detectives said the woman and her boyfriend planned to deliver the package to an unidentified third party.

A 19-year-old St. Peters woman is accused of having her 12-year-old brother receive a package containing 15 pounds of marijuana, according to a St. Charles County Drug Task Force report.

Alana Howell, 19, of the 3900 block of Jaq-Mar Court in St. Peters, was charged Tuesday with intent to deliver a controlled substance and possession of drug-related items.

Drug Task Force detectives said Howell was paid $500 to receive a package. Howell told deputies she and her boyfriend, Joseph Zair-Hanks, were to take the package to an unidentified third party, who would sell the marijuana.

Detectives said Howell’s younger brother was to accept the package and call her on her cell phone once he got the package.

The investigation led to Howell’s boyfriend’s address in the 1800 block of Peach Street in St. Peters, where Howell occasionally lives with Zair-Hanks, detectives said.

Task Force members found syringes and spoons used to cook heroin. Detectives said Howell admitted she is a heroin addict.

Zair-Hanks is on probation after being found guilty in 2011 of distributing a controlled substance.

Howell was being held in St. Charles County jail on Wednesday. Bail was set at $75,000.

As long as Judges continue to be lenient with First Offenders this crap is going to spread even more so. If Judges really believe that this is how to approach this sick problem than at least have the perpetrator consume the drugs they are caught with within a very short time period and then release them back onto society.

Ya cause consuming any drug any amount in a short amount of time and releasing them back in to society is a great idea!!!! Seriously???

I hope this young woman gets the help that she needs and that she will accept the help. If she continues using she will eventually end up another heroin death statistic. She is somebodies daughter. Don't anybody believe that this could never be your child. Addiction does not discriminate.

If they die, it would be a great idea. We have enough scum on the streets
Becky January 26, 2013 at 05:15 AM
William Braudis, you are a very hateful person. Do you have children, grandchildren, nieces, nephews, siblings? How would you feel if this was a loved one of yours? Would it make you feel better if they just died? Do you know anybody who has lost a loved one from an addiction? I am not condoning what she did and she should be punished for it, but for you to say it would be a great idea for her and others to die is just sick and cruel. Do you hate all recovering addicts too? There are people of all walks of life that have alcohol and/or drug addictions that have been sober for hours, weeks, days, months and years and become very successful people. Do you wish death on them too? It is people like you out in society that I would be more worried about than a heroin addict. You should be ashamed of yourself for ever wishing death on anybody.

Hey Gabe, I am not bad mouthing Alana at all.My comments were for the guy wishing death on heroin addicts.I have a serious problem with anybody so full of hate as he is. I was not there and I do not know what happened. I have three grown sons and I know how some cops do things. Not all are honest. My concern with her is if she is using heroin I hope she gets help. She needs to beg the courts for a treatment program. Bridgeway is a really good treatment center that is there for the patients, not to get rich. I would much rather see someone with an addiction be sent to a real treatment center than prison. I wish only the best for her and her family. I know they are all going through hell over this.

If I was her parent, I would beg the courts to give her the max sentence. then I would move far away and not give her my new address and phone number.

Umm.. Idk. I've never heard of mailing that much pot. Isn't that why folks hire a driver and rent a u haul? Idk.. Sounds like a set up.. Sorry Alana :(

Well I'm saying she is a total jerk for involving her little brother. Seriously. If she were my daughter I would disown her. Its one thing for her to ruin her own life but to drag a younger sibling along is incomprehensible.
