St. Charles Police found the chalice at a jewelry store in St. Charles. The owner of the store purchased the chalice without knowing it was stolen. After seeing reports that it was, in fact, a stolen item, the owner contacted St. Charles Police.
St. Peters Police report that McDonald, after becoming aware that he was suspected in the theft, turned himself in to the Cottleville Fire Department, who then contacted St. Peters Police. McDonald was taken into custody without incident.
While in custody, McDonald admitted to Detectives that he entered the church unlawfully and stole the chalice. The chalice has been recovered and returned to the church.
McDonald is being held on a $15,000 cash-only bond for Burglary 2nd and Stealing more than $500. He will be transported to St. Charles County Jail.
