St. Charles Police found the chalice at a jewelry store in St. Charles. The owner of the store purchased the chalice without knowing it was stolen. After seeing reports that it was, in fact, a stolen item, the owner contacted St. Charles Police.

St. Peters Police report that McDonald, after becoming aware that he was suspected in the theft, turned himself in to the  Cottleville Fire Department, who then contacted St. Peters Police.  McDonald was taken into custody without incident.

While in custody, McDonald admitted to Detectives that he entered the church unlawfully and stole the chalice. The chalice has been recovered and returned to the church.

McDonald is being held on a $15,000 cash-only bond for Burglary 2nd and Stealing more than $500. He will be transported to St. Charles County Jail.

The owner of the Jewelry Store should be charged with receiving stolen property. A 20 year old walks into a Jewelry Store with a $ 6,000 Chalice and he is not even suspicious This owner is equal to McDonald. If store owners are not leaned on hard, thieves will alway have a willing and able outlet for their stolen property. In this case it is obvious that the store owner knew that this Chalice had to be stolen.

Another idiotic comment. The store owner contacted the police you moron! The ONLY reason you are commenting on this is because the item came from a church, and if you had it your way they would both be burned at the stake. As much as you spew your patriotic/ constitutional rhetoric on other matters, you should learn to curb your religeous fanaticism.

Idiot Police, Wonder comment Mr. Idiot. The owner should have IMMEDIATELY contacted the Police not when he knew that he was headed into big trouble. Again I say, when a young jerk walks into a Jewelry Store with a $ 6000.00 artifact the owner immediately know that this was a stolen item and should have immediately called the Police. He knew that he could make a lot of money from the resale of this Gold Chalice.
