Additional Northbound I-270 Lane Open, Work Zones Restricted for Holiday

The Missouri Department of Transportation reports its St. Louis work zones for Dec. 20-26.

The opening of an additional lane on northbound Interstate 270 and ramps on I-55 will mean smoother travel for some area commuters. Wednesday afternoon, MoDOT crews opened a new northbound lane on Interstate 270 between I-44 and Manchester Road (Route 100).

The new lane of roadway will increase the number of vehicles that can travel through the area during morning rush hour and decrease congestion for commuters.

In Jefferson County, MoDOT crews opened the eastbound Route M entrance ramp to northbound I-55 and the northbound I-55 exit ramp to Route M. This project consists of improvements to the I-55 at Route M interchange, which will greatly enhance its safety and traffic flow.

MoDOT work zones will be restricted Monday at noon for the holiday, and work will resume on Wednesday at 9 a.m.

Motorists should be aware of the following on-going closures:

  • I-70, (westbound section of the Interstate 70 Blanchette bridge over the Missouri River) will remain closed until fall 2013. The eastbound I-70 bridge has three lanes of traffic in each direction. The ramp from northbound 5th Street to eastbound I-70 is closed until fall 2013.
  • Wellington, St. Louis City, the Wellington bridge closed over the River Des Peres until April 2013. Detour to Jamieson Avenue bridge.
  • I-70, St. Louis City, the exit ramp from westbound I-70 to Madison will remain closed until late January, due to needed utility work.
