Déjà Vu: Violet Takes Oath of Office for Second Time in Seven Months

Terri Violet was sworn in to serve on the St. Peters Board of Aldermen following her win in the April 2 election.

If she keeps her current pace, Terri Violet will soon have the oath of office memorized.

Violet, Ward 3, was sworn on Thursday night to retain her seat on the Board of Aldermen following her win in the April 2 election. It was the second time in nearly seven months Violet has taken the oath—two more times than any other board member during that time span.

Despite the relative closeness of the two oaths, Violet said both are special to her.

"I'm honored to do both," Violet said. "It was an honor originally to be chosen out the thousands of residents in Ward 3—that says a lot. ... To be chosen by the people, it shows the residents think Mayor [Len] Pagano made a good choice."

While Violet doesn't have a favorite oath, her second one is important to her because she said it validates her place on the board.

"There's some that said I really wasn't an alderman because I wasn't elected, so I I'm a real alderman now," she said with a smile.

Violet's first oath came in September 2012 following her appointment to the board after Gus Elliott's resignation. She was sworn in again after beating Michelle Walker in the 2013 election.

Violet's run of oaths will take a break for at least another two years. By beating Walker, Violet will serve on the board until Elliott's original four-year term expires in 2015.

Following the win, Violet will be free in the spring the first time in three years. She ran back-to-back-to-back campaigns to get her spot on the board. This spring, she'll have some free time. She said she plans to use the time not on the campaign trail with her family.

"I might be able to go visit family," she said. "I have a new baby granddaughter that I've only gotten to see for two days. I think that I'll be doing some visiting."
