Lakeside 370 Park Work Nearing Completion

St. Peters Board of Aldermen informed about park's progress at Thursday's meeting.

Despite less than ideal working conditions, work at Lakeside 370 Park is progressing nicely.

Parks and Recreation Director Jeff Hutsler gave a presentation Thursday evening at the Board of Alderman meeting on the status of the new park. Weather conditions have put a halt on a lot of the work being done, but it hasn't delayed the project.

Hutsler said the park is 90 percent complete and the department is doing all it can to hit the April target.

“A lot is going to have to happen as soon as the weather breaks,” he said.

The main road to get to Lakeside 370 is 95 percent done. Hutsler said that the road work, done by in-house crews, has been going well.

"I can't say enough about the city crews," he said.

Right now, the marina has been completed and the parking lot to the boat house is also done. The RV patch still needs electricity and a check-in station, but Hutsler those should be completed on time.

Two miles worth of trials are already finished. Next week work on more trails is set to begin. In total, Lakeside 370 will have six miles worth of trails. Hutsler said they may be the best trials in St. Peters when finished because of the views.

Before the park can be opened, 6,300 trees still need to be planted. Also, the lake needs to be stocked with more fish. Bass are already in place and the Parks Department plans to put catfish and bluegills into the lake.

Hutsler said the plan is to have everything completed by April, weather permitting.

Hutsler also presented the Board of Aldermen with a proposed list of rules and regulations for the park. The proposal was approved and will be voted on at the Feb. 25 Aldermen meeting.

WATER WELLS MAY BE REPLACED

Five of the eight water wells in St. Peters are more than 30 years old and that may change soon.

Manager of Public Works Services Russ Batzel submitted a proposal Thursday to upgrade the wells. The proposal wants to design and construct two new wells this year and discontinue wells No. 3 and No. 6.

When the specific capacity of wells No. 7 and No. 8 drops below 33 percent, those wells will be replaced as well. The funding for the project is lined out in the city's Capital Improvement Plan.

The board approved the proposal and will vote on the matter at a later meeting.
