Second Plaza Tire Service Location On Its Way to St. Peters

The tire company plans to open a second location in St. Peters on Mexico Road.

The former Royal Oaks Chrysler Jeep at 4080 Mexico Road could soon have a full-time tenant.

The former car dealership acted as the headquarters for the St. Charles County Republican party last fall, but that was only temporary. At the February meeting of the St. Peters Planning and Zoning Commission, a more permanent tenant sought the approval of the commission.

Plaza Tire Service presented a site plan and preliminary plat for the lot at Mexico and Cave Springs Roads. The commission unanimously approved the plans.

"Glad to see something coming in," Commission chairman Keith McNames said.

Plaza Tire Service was founded in 1963 and has 51 locations in Missouri, Illinois, Arkansas and Kentucky. The company is familiar with St. Peters with its location 7878 Mexico Rd

Plaza Tire Services plans to take on the whole dealership lot and divide it into three sections—north, west and east. So far the only plans are for the west lot, where the dealership headquarters is currently located.

The site plan calls the development of the first phase to tear down the original building to make way for the Plaza Tire Services building. Along with constructing the retail area and the actual building, 40 parking spots will be created and landscaping will be introduced to the area. Because of new water quality standards, native vegetation will be added to clean the water.

A big part of the site plans is the changing of the entrances and exits. Of the three exits along Cave Springs, Plaza Tire Services plans close two and move one. The new entrance off of Mexico Road will be a left-in, left-out only after discussions with the highway department.

The back building, which is on another lot, will be untouched in the initial development. Plaza Tire Services said they had no plans at the time being for that lot, but would return to the Planning and Zoning Commission when plans are made.
