St. Peters Board Back in Session for June Meeting

The board will decide the fate of a proposed cell phone tower at Anthony's Produce during Thursday's meeting.

It's been more than a month since the St. Peters Board of Aldermen convened, but that will change Thursday night.

As usual, the board took the first Thursday of June off this summer. With that break in the schedule, Aldermen haven't met since May 23. At 5 p.m. on Thursday the Board will return for a work session and will be met with a loaded agenda.

It's amazing what can pile up over four weeks. Normal work session agenda feature five to seven items. On Thursday? The board will begin have 19 items up for discussion.

First among the items up for Thursday's work session is a change to city code regarding multi-way stops. Ward 2 Aldermen Judy Bateman and Jerry Hollingsworth have proposed several changes to the wording currently on the books.

The board will also begin discussion about adding a new committee. The proposed IT committee would aim to educated people about technology  One of the mentioned goals is that the committee would help alert the less technologically inclined about scams.

One item on the work session agenda that might tip the board's hand for the regular meeting at 7 p.m. During the regular meeting, which also has a long agenda, the board will host a public hearing about a proposed cell phone tower.

St. Charles Tower is seeking to build a tower in the parking lot at Anthony's Produce. In May the Planning and Zoning Commission told the group to try and find another location. St. Charles Tower could not and came back in June with a proposed location in the same area, just in a different section of the parking lot.

The commission approved the proposed tower and now, after Thursday's public hearing, the board will decide the fate of the tower.

During the work session, however, the board will be debating if they should encourage Missouri Governor Jay Nixon to veto two House bills relating to cell phone towers.
The work session begins at 5 p.m. and the meeting starts at 7 p.m. at the St. Peters Justice Center. Board of Aldermen meetings and work sessions are broadcast on Charter Cable channel 992 and U-Verse channel 99. Replays of the meetings are played periodically throughout the month. Board of Aldermen meetings are also available online to view live or on demand.
