Tax Rate Hearing on the Agenda for St. Peters Aldermen

The St. Peters Board of Aldermen will meet at 5 p.m. tonight, Thursday, at the Justice Center.

A public hearing will take place tonight, Thursday, Sept. 22, at the dealing with the tax rate.

With the current fiscal year beginning Oct. 1, the city is discussing how to adjust the rate to "produce substantially the same revenues" from property taxes. Each tax rate is determined by dividing the amount of revenue required by the current assessed valuation. The result is multiplied by 100 so the tax rate will be expressed in cents per $100 valuation.

The proposed tax rate is $0.770—the same amount as 2010.
