UPDATE: Glenn Koenen Wins Democratic Nomination for 2nd Congressional District

According to unofficial election results from the Secretary of State, Koenen, of Oakville, has won the Democratic nomination by 49 votes. Lack of results from two St. Louis County precincts held up the final unofficial determination.

With 470 out of 470 precincts reporting, Glenn Koenen, of Oakville, has won the Democratic nomination for the 2nd Congressional District with 7893 votes, according to the Seceretary of State election results website.

The unofficial election results show Koenen won the race by only 49 votes. Harold Whitfield, of Kirkwood, had 7,844 votes, George (Boots) Weber, of Eureka, came in third place with 7,545 votes. Marshall Works, of Ballwin, had only 4,531 votes.

These results were just released. At 9 a.m, a spokeswoman with the Secretary of State Office said that they were awaiting final votes from two precincts in St. Louis County.

Rita Days, director of the St. Louis County Election Board, said the results were delayed because "we had personnel who did not close out the machines properly."

Days said the county worked feverishly this morning to get the results from the two precincts.

The winner will face Ann Wagner in the November elections who won the Republican nomination by a landslide.

Update: On Thursday, Whitfield said he planned to ask for a recount.
