National Protect Your Identity Week runs from October 20-27 and was created by the National Foundation for Credit Counseling (NFCC) in order to bring attention to the growing ID Theft crisis. NFCC member credit counseling agencies, like ClearPoint, are seeing more and more clients who experience ensuing credit difficulties as a result of ID theft. For the twelfth year in a row, ID theft was also the subject most frequently complained about by consumers to the Federal Trade Commission (FTC).

The FTC reports that complaints about identity theft increased 13% in 2011 and represent nearly one-fifth of the entire number of complaints received by the agency.
