Francis Howell BOE Meeting Set for Tonight

Board of Education meeting begins at 7 p.m. at the district administrative offices.

The cost of school lunches for Francis Howell students may be going up.

The Francis Howell Board of Education is set to meet at 7 p.m. tonight, May 19, at the administration offices. On the agenda for the meeting is an item that would raise prices of school lunches district wide. 

From the agenda: "Effective July 1, 2011, section 205 of the Healthy, Hunger-Free Kids Act of 2010 (the “Act”) requires school food authorities (SFAs) participating in the National School Lunch Program to provide the same level of support for lunches served to students who are not eligible for free or reduced price lunches (i.e., paid lunches) as they are for lunches served to students eligible for free lunches."

To keep getting federal money, the district needs to incrimentaly raise lunch prices. At the last BOE meeting, Chief Financial Officer Kevin Supple said the district would need to raise prices a nickel next year, and for a few years after, to meet standards.

  • The Board will vote on 13 purchases over $7,500. The Board will consider approving purchases for new text books and new cheerleading uniforms for Francis Howell Central.
  • In a work session, the Board will discuss participation in MSBA’s Outstanding Board of Education Award.  
  • The Board will have a first reading of curriculum review.
