Lutheran Cougars, Fort Zumwalt South Lady Bulldogs Still Alive in Basketball Playoffs

Lutheran Cougars Being District play Feb. 28 while the Class 5, District 8 Champion Fort Zumwalt South Lady Bulldogs take the court on Wednesday.

The 2010 winter sports season is winding to a close for St. Peters-area high schools.

Girls swimming and wrestling wrapped up their seasons a few weekends ago leaving basketball as the only sport still left on the schedule. 

The Class 5, District 8 Tournaments narrowed the field for the larger schools. , , Francis Howell North and Francis Howell Central met up with Fort Zumwalt North to decide who would live to play this week in the opening round of the MSHSAA Championship Bracket.

On the boys side,  to keep its quest for a State title alive. The night before, the girls from to win the District title. 

The Zumwalt South Lady Bulldogs will take on Fort Zumwalt West in the opening round of the State Tournament. At 7:45 p.m. Wednesday, the two district rivals will meet up at Maryville University for a chance to keep State title hopes alive.

While the Lady Bulldogs have already come out on the other side of the District touramanet, will begin its District journey tonight, Monday, Feb. 28.

The Cougars will kick off the Class 3, District 6 tournament at 3:30 p.m. At Whitfield High School, Lutheran will take on Lutheran North in a game that will see one team's season end. 

If the boys win, the Cougars will play the winner of Orchard Farm/Principia at 5:30 p.m. on Wednesday. The boys championship will take place at 8 p.m. on Friday, March 4. 

On Tuesday, March 1, the Lady Cougars will get a shot to extend its season. Lutheran will take on John Burroughs at 5 p.m. The girls tournamet will be played at Principia High School.

The Lady Cougars next possible game will be at 5:30 p.m on Thursday. If Lutheran wins the District opener, the team will face the winner of the Principia/Transportation and Law High School game. The girls tournament final will be at 6 p.m. on Friday.
