St. Peters Board of Aldermen Election: Submit Your Questions for Candidates

Patch will send questionnaires to the two candidates running in the April election for the Ward 3 seat on the Board of Aldermen. What questions should we include?

Two candidates have filed to run for the Ward 3 seat on the St. Peters Board of Aldermen in the April 2 election. As we approach the election, Patch will send each candidate a questionnaire to help empower voters to cast their ballots for the candidates they believe in.

And we would like to include all of you in the process.

The two candidates, Terri Violet and Michelle Walker, will compete for the remaining two years in Former Alderman Gus Elliot's term.  following a harassment investigation.

Violet was appointed to fill the open seat until the April 2 election.

What questions do you have for the candidates? Do you have a question about a particular issue? Or would you like to know the candidates' viewpoints on a more general question for the whole city?

Please share your questions in the comments section at the bottom of this article. We'll include as many as we can in our candidate questionnaire.

We ask that you please ask questions that are on point and deal with the issues—this is not a forum for personal attacks on one candidate or a specific issue.

This is your election St. Peters—what information do you need before heading into the voting booth? Please submit your questions by noon on Friday, March 1.

1. Do you have any Executive Management experience that will help you in the position you are seeking? 2. With the economy sputtering right now, you will be forced to make tough decisions on how to manage the City's multi - million dollar budget. Do you have any experience managing a large budget and keeping it balanced? 3. Do you have established working relationships with any Elected Officials, other than St. Peters Officials, that you can work with to get things accomplished for our City and it's Residents? 4. What qualifications do you have that make you the best candidate for this position? 5. Can you tell us something positive about your opponent? 6. What will be your Top Priority if elected to this position? 7. What would you change about the City of St. Peters if you were given the opportunity? 8. Why are you running for this position? I hope it's alright with everyone that I asked a few questions. Being the current elected Alderman of Ward 3 I would like to get answers to the questions above so I know who I'm going to be working with as Ward 3 Alderman. Maybe we can get a clear answer as to who is better qualified to fill the position. Anyway, THANKS to the Patch for giving us the opportunity to ask questions of our future Elected Official. Alderman Tommy Roberts 314-280-0944

This is your election St. Peters—what information do you need before heading into the voting booth? Please submit your questions by noon on Friday, March 1. Evedently we missed the deadline for the questions Tommy! When and where do we read the answers to the questions asked Kalen Ponche?
Alderman Tommy Roberts March 14, 2013 at 03:51 AM
Thanks for pointing the deadline out Fred.... LOL I read the article and know about the deadline. I figured since we haven't been presented with a set of answered questions yet, I would try to throw a few questions out there to seek answers. The election is not that far away! Maybe the candidates can come on this site and answer our questions?? Do we know if the candidates have received a questionnaire??
Fred Oompahloompah March 14, 2013 at 11:02 AM
Ms. Walker has answered some of my questions on her Facebook page but not a peep from Violet. Ponche was a little vague on the details of how and when the candidates will receive the questionnaire but that is about par for this Patch!

What is your position on the red light cameras? I feel its a hidden tax on the people of st.peters. If it was for safety reasons it would have more then a monetary value assigned to the ticket. Its just another power grab by local official do gooders. You people all always are trying to find an accuse to take money from people.
Clayton Stone March 20, 2013 at 08:59 PM
Fred, EW3 is a petty officer with a pay grade of E-4. Her explanation of her veteran status is a bit cloudy.
Clayton Stone March 20, 2013 at 09:04 PM
Walker is now being back by special interest group with PAC money. So if elected, we will have special interest groups (money & influence) involved in our city's business.
Fred Oompahloompah March 20, 2013 at 09:59 PM
So what would be the difference from what we have now?
Michelle Walker March 21, 2013 at 04:18 AM
EW means Electronic Warfare and -3 was my pay grade. I was discharged Honorably as an E-3 and have shared my official DD214. I was not a petty officer or an E-4. A candidate for public office should possess many qualifications and experiences. Can we move past 1 year, two decades ago and talk about the last 18 years, or better yet, how about we talk about the issues? I wish we could have an open forum to discuss the issues and the experience the candidates bring to the city. I haven't gotten any "official" questions from Patch yet, are they coming soon? Sorry I keep answering this way but I will not allow these hurtful, personal attacks to go unanswered. Please let me know what more documentation you seek to stop questioning my service to our country.

Terri Violet's bio information was listed in some poll as "elected positions held: 3rd ward alderman"? Hmmm? I do not remember her winning any election to the 3rd ward Alderman office.
Fred Oompahloompah March 21, 2013 at 03:39 PM
A significant problem with an Alderman (woman) who has been appointed by a mayor to that office then being elected to that office, there is the question of the pressure on her to be loyal & obligated to the mayor for that "favor"! Terri Violet does not seem to be sble to stand up to the iron fist of the "Pagano machine"! As Gus found out the hard way, he gave 'em hell but got set up and ended up getting cut off at the knees.
Fred Oompahloompah March 23, 2013 at 10:03 AM
Terri Violet has offened countless women in her latetest campaign stunt to discredit Michelle Walker in the election for the third ward alderman office. In a letter sent out to residence she has stated that a women (her apponent) would not be qualified to hold and preform the duties of the third ward alderman office due to the fact that Walker would be to busy taking care of her three young children and holding down a job. Open mouth and stick foot in one more time Terri!
Dorothy March 23, 2013 at 01:24 PM
Great questions Tommy, I'd be engaged to ask you the same questions in relation to yourself being "our" alderman. I also believe you probably know Michelle Walker more than your letting on, because I have to drive past your home every day to get to mine and interestingly there were two vehicles in your driveway, with very large Michelle Walker stickers on their rear windows, they were there for a while.
Dorothy March 23, 2013 at 01:27 PM
Michelle, are you a registered Democrat or Republican? That will really help me decide who I'm voting for. Also Michelle are you a Union supporter like "our" other alderman Tommy is? That will also help me decide and others I'm sure to decide how we will be voting.
Dorothy March 23, 2013 at 01:31 PM
Michelle as a person who is running for an elected position I would think that you should understand that this is part of information disclosure that is necessary. You are the won that brought it into your campaign. I actually got the impression based on the signs you've put out for your campaign that this was recent service and much longer than one years time, 18 years ago. If you didn't want people questioning it's authenticity then maybe you shouldn't have included it in your campaign in the manner which you did. You are running, we are voting, we are entitled to ask those and many other questions of you before the election. If you are too thin skinned to deal with those few questions about your service record maybe you are not truly ready to seek this position you are wishing to be elected to.
Clayton Stone March 24, 2013 at 01:51 AM
Great questions and comments, Dorothy. First.....she parked around the corner tonight while working with Tommy. She has been professing that she is very "pro-union." Her recent mailers are financed by a PAC that is allegedly pro right-to-work. ???? Can one have it both ways?
Clayton Stone March 24, 2013 at 02:07 AM
I have read that letter and I believe you have taken one item from the whole letter and misrepresented it. The bulk of the message to residents is how serious she is about taking care of the residents and how much time it takes to provide that commitment. When I read Walker's alleged credentials weeks ago I wondered where she is going to find time to be an alderman with her business, that she tried to move to St Charles in January, her family, all those committees and boards. As for "open mouth..." you do a pretty good job of it. Take the comment you made about Gus Elliott being "chopped off at the knees." Gus Elliott confessed to his crimes while holding public office. He took the lessor of two options. What I can't figure out is why are you so evil? The other guy that I know that evil is 'Gary.' Try being nice once in awhile.
Fred Oompahloompah March 24, 2013 at 02:26 AM
Well Clay, we know that Gus was tricked into that "crime". He was set up and Pagano came in for the "kill shot" to pull that thorn out of his side! Believe it or not there are people and yes even women who can handle several tasks simultaneously in their lives. Violet apparently does not, is not willing or just does not have the ability to. Unfortunately, as in this campaign, nice guys finish last. Cast the first stone Stone. LOL!
Dee Hoock March 24, 2013 at 02:47 AM
Mr. Stone Terri Violet totally dissipated any positive points she tried to make in her mailer when she made a negative comment about not only Michelle Walker but all working mothers. Maybe she wouldn't be capable of wearing a lot of different hats but there are tons of women out there who can, Who is she to judge whether Mrs. Walker can or cannot "do it all"? No one has a right to make a ridiculous comment like that unless they have walked in their shoes. It has become more & more apparent to me that Violet is afraid she will lose once again based on her credentials so has chosen to play the negative opponent bashing game.First the military record (which has been cleared up numerous times now), then the PAC & now her status as a working mother. Not sure she ever had my vote but after the working mother comment she has definitely lost it.
Fred Oompahloompah March 24, 2013 at 01:33 PM
We can only hope that the voting residents of the 3rd ward can see through Violet's sweet facade and see what a political hack she really is. All one has to do is look back at her past two campaigns to see the mud she slung in her failed attempts to get elected as the 3rd ward Alderman.
Kalen Ponche March 24, 2013 at 06:22 PM
Patch has sent out questionnaires to both candidates for Ward 3 alderman. We'll post the responses as we receive them.
Carole Paul March 25, 2013 at 04:40 AM
Ms. Walker, in what way have you been involved in our city before you decided to seek the Alderman's position. Have you served on any Boards or Commissions in the city? Please explain the out of state PAC money that you campaign has received. And Ms Walker, please explain the 3 huge billboards erected across from the entrance to the Rec-Pelx last Thursday March 21st and taken down that same day. I know why, but I'll wait for you to respond. Just a boo-boo, I think not! :)
Fred Oompahloompah March 25, 2013 at 11:28 AM
Carol why ask the questions you think you already know the answer to? Let us ask some questions of the candidates that we do not know!
Carole Paul March 25, 2013 at 03:25 PM
Fre, did you see the 3 billboards across from the Rec-Plex? The billboards were only there for a few hours before Walker's campaign was forced to take them down. She was supposed to ask property owners' permission before erecting signs. She didn't bother asking. Same goes for all those signs on Mexico Rd. Walkers' signs are in right of ways or property borderlines, which is against the rules in a campaign. You ASK property owners BEFORE putting signs up!! Its' only common courtesy. Maybe the out of state PAC and Tommy Roberts' union connections don't know the "Rules of common courtesy" when putting up signs. It's supposed to mean the property owner ENDORSES your campaign. If Walker is elected, what will the out of state Real Estate PAC want from her in return? What will the Unions want from her in return for their $cash$ they spent on her? I don't want out of state interests controlling our city! I don't want Tommy Roberts' unions controlling our city! They already have at least 2 members of our BOA, should the special interests control 3 members now! Is that what you really want for our beautiful city of St. Peters? The Mayor's job is tough enough without out of state interests with lots of $$$ wanting "their share" of control.
Fred Oompahloompah March 25, 2013 at 07:50 PM
Carol, Do not stupe to the "boogadie man is under your bed" tactics and spread the "sky is falling" fear mongering of Chicken Little! I am sure Michelle is following all the rules and regs of campaigning! Pagano needs more Aldermen who will be able to reign him in now that Gus is gone. Write about the lack of common courtesy? Just read that awful letter Violet wrote about women with children not being qualified to be an Alderman in the city of St. Peters.
Carole Paul March 25, 2013 at 08:04 PM
"Pagano needs more Aldermen who will be able to reign him in now that Gus is gone." are you serious?? I understand you now, Fre. I read Violet's letter. That's not at all what she said. PACs are very good at putting words in a candidate's mouth. They twist their words and try their darnest to make an issue where there is none. That's their business and they are good at it.
Fred Oompahloompah March 25, 2013 at 08:17 PM
Caroll, nothing was put in any ones mouth by Michelle at least. It was ln writing. I do not know what is put in Violet but it is nothing of Michelle's doing. However, Violet is the master of "open mouth insert foot" and that will be her own undoing come April 2.
Dee Hoock March 25, 2013 at 08:18 PM
Carole I beg to differ. That is exactly what Violet said & I quote straight from her letter: “My opponent has 3 very young children and for their sake, I hope I receive your vote. There is no way a parent with toddlers and a full time job can serve effectively in the role as alderman!” As a working mother & a single parent as well, I take extreme offense to that statement. Furthermore I really don't understand why there have been so many attacks on Mrs. Walker on this post & none to Violet. I can only guess that these are moles that the Violet campaign has planted to stir up all this crap in an effort to try & I repeat "try" to keep her hands clean. Talk about running scared that is exactly what she is doing. Lets stick to what the candidates can do for the good citizens of St. Peters instead of signs, misguided statements about the PAC etc. If Violet loses is she going to blame it on the signs that I have no doubt were all installed with permission? Lets stick to the issues instead of all of the mud slinging.
Fred Oompahloompah March 25, 2013 at 08:34 PM
The mothers of the third ward will rise up and vote against Violet and that will be her undoing on April 2. Strike 3 and she is out!
Carole Paul March 25, 2013 at 09:49 PM
What "misguided statements about the PACs" would that be? It's true, check it out for yourself if you don't believe it. You are a "single parent as well, I take extreme offense to that statement". Take all the offense you want. She's married. Haven't you met/seen pics of her family? "these are moles that the Violet campaign has planted to stir up all this crap" That's funny. I'm not using an Oompa fake name, and I've been going to St. Peters BOA meetings since they built the new Justice Center. Never saw you there. Most times its just me and the Patch reporter. "Lets stick to what the candidates can do for the good citizens of St. Peters instead of signs". You're kidding, right? What a candidate does in their campaign, who she uses, where she puts her signs, who does her talking for her, whether or not she's honest, all these things make up the character of a candidate. They are important! Check stuff out before you post nonsense.
