Zumwalt Board Set for Meeting Monday Night

Fort Zumwalt Board of Education will hear first presentation of 2012-13 budget during Monday's meeting.

Before the new school year can start, the Board of Education needs to tackle a few things.

The board will meet at 7 p.m. Monday night at the District headquarters in O'Fallon. The meeting will be the first, but not only, meeting for the board this month. Ordinarily the board meets once, the third Monday of each month, but Monday night's agenda calls for the board to vote on having a second meeting. If approved, the board will conduct a special meeting next Monday, June 25.

A potential reason for the two meetings is the issue of a budget. With the 2012-13 school year set to officially begin on the first of July, the board needs to approve a operating budget. Before the budget can be approved, the board must first go over the budget and address any potential issues.

That process will take place Monday night. On the agenda is a presentation to the board of a draft of the 2012-13 budget. The draft will give the board a chance to iron out and address and concerns. The next step will be for the board to approve the agenda, presumably at the special meeting.

The budget won't be the only item on the agenda. The board will also vote on the bus routes for next year, bus leases and a propane bus lease. Other items on the agenda are a computer lease agreement and an item relating to athletic organization reimbursement rates. The board, of course, will also take care of regular business like financial reports and construction updates.
