The Rascals hitters did not fare well. Chris McClendon was 0-for-2. Stephen Holdren and Danny Sawyer were each hitless in one official at bat.

River City had four players in the starting lineup for the West squad, which was managed by Rascals field boss Steve Brook.

A crowd of 5,257 attended the contest at All Pro Freight Stadium, home of the Lake Erie Crushers.

Erik Lis, of Joliet, was named the Most Valuable Player of the contest. He hit a two-run triple off Sterner in the opening inning. Sterner, one of the league's top pitchers the first half of the season, entered the game with a 6-1 mark.

River City opens the second half of the campaign with a key three-game series beginning Friday at Southern Illinois.

The Rascals (33-14) have the best record in the 12-team league and lead the Miners (31-16) by two games in the battle for the top spot in the West.

The Rascals then travel to Normal for three games beginning on Monday. They return home to face Southern Illinois in a three-game series starting July 21 at T.R. Hughes Ballpark.
