Field Dwindles at State Wrestling Tournament

St. Peters still has a few wrestlers left in the State tournament.

COLUMBIA -- Day 2 of the 2011 Missouri Wrestling State Championships has come and gone.

Only 112 of the 896 wrestlers that survived Day 1 still have a shot to win a state title. Here’s a recap of how some of the St. Louis-area schools have done so far:

Class Three

Fort Zumwalt East – Tied for 19th place with 20 points.

Conor Vortherms is still competing in the consolation bracket in the 189-pound weight class.

Class Four

Francis Howell Central – In third place with 94.5 points.

The team is just half a point behind Park Hill for second place overall in the class four tournament. It will be up to Ben Henson and Terrel Wilbourn who have the opportunity to win state titles at the 119 and 140-pound weight classes, respectively.

Francis Howell North – In 25th place with 17.5 points.

Jason Shell and Harold Ritchie both still have a shot at third place.
