Friday Night Spotlight: Prep Football Games Taking on Bigger Meaning

Bigger schools begin District play in Week 6 action.

Week 6 of high school football begins tonight and continues tomorrow. 

Two St. Peters high school teams will take the field on Friday for regular season meetings. Two more will hit the field on Saturday for the first round of District play.

Friday

 (0-5) vs. Trinity (4-1) at 7 p.m. 

The Lutheran Cougars take on Trinity in Week 6 in another AAA meeting. The Cougars have struggled on the year—0-5 in conference play and on the season. Things won't get any easier against Trinity. 

Trinity is 4-1 and scoring an incredible 43.8 points per game. Defensively, Trinity has given up just 13.2 points a contest.

Francis Howell Central (3-2) at Fort Zumwalt West (3-2) at 7 p.m.

Francis Howell Central and Fort Zumwalt West are tied for first atop the GAC South. Both 3-2 and 3-0 in conference play, the Jaguars and Cougars will square off tonight.

Howell Central has alternated wins and losses all season long. The Jags are on a two-game winning streak heading into the game.

GAC North rivals and Fort Zuwmalt rivals will face off for the first game Class 5, District 4 playoffs. Zuwmalt East and Zumwalt South will play a Saturday matinee. 

Zuwmalt South is riding a three-game winning streak. The 2011 incarnation of the Bulldogs have more wins than the previous three seasons combined. A big reason has been the offense, which is averaging 37 points a game. 

The Lions, meanwhile, are 2-3 and coming off a loss in Week 5. Zumwalt East gave up 63 points in a loss to Union last week. Previously the Lions had given up just 23 points a game.
