Snowy Conditions Make for Fun Times

Just because there's snow on the ground doesn't mean you can't play some games outside.

Just because there is snow on the ground doesn't mean you can't go outside and get in a little exercise. In fact, snow can make some sports even more fun.

Here are five snow sports the whole family can enjoy.

1. Sledding. Sledding isn't just going down a hill. If you feel ambitious, you can make a game out of it. Say you have a family of six, have two teams, three on each team. Three races, best two of out three. Try to make the races last 30 seconds. Add style points. Whoever goes down the hill with style gets, say, 10 points. Make them timed races. Whoever ends the races in 15 seconds get 20 points. 20 seconds 10 points.

2. Football. With all the sweet ice on the ground, football in the snow becomes fun and dangerous. Tackle the Ball carrier is an old-school backyard football game. Someone attempts to hold the football as long as they can while the other players try to tackle him and get the ball. The ice adds a natural element to this game. Of course, there is always normal football which is just as fun in the snow. The soft ground makes tackle football that much more fun.

3. Baseball. In the snow? Oh yeah. Like football, the snow and ice add a natural element  to an old-time game. Home run derby's, pitchers dual, and who steals the bases the fastest are some nice mini-games to play. Normal baseball with custom points is good game to try.

4. Curling. A more mature game, but a great game in the ice. Find a real icy place to play this game or it will not work. Basically, you have a flat object like a rock or a hockey puck, and a couple of brooms. One person gently rolls the object to the target while two players brush the snow in front of it to make go faster. Customizing this game makes it more fun.

5. Hockey. The perfect winter sport. Don't have skates? The ice will act as skates. So many mini-games can be played with this one. Shootouts, hardest shot, fastest player with puck, hardest hit and fastest goal are some ideas if you don't have a full squad. If there is a pond near by, you can play hockey on it, but make sure it is safe.
