After the game Zumwalt South head coach Vernon Gano said Hendrix’ strong suit was her speed and ability to break away from the opposing team’s defenders. The first goal highlighted her speed as she pulled away from North’s defenders, dribbled the ball toward the goal, and then made a successful shot.

“It just comes from running a lot in practices,” Hendrix said on developing speed.

The sophomore scored her second goal with 17:50 left to play in the second half. It was a different type of goal than the first one. Hendrix was just feet in front of the goal and when ball floated in her direction she took control of it and put up another successful shot.

Zumwalt South improved to 11-12 overall with the win. Hendrix said working together as a cohesive unit is her team’s strong suit.

“We really play well when we’re talking together,” she said. “We communicate well and make good passes.”

Hendrix’ varsity career started early; she played both junior varsity and varsity soccer last year.

“It was a very good thing to be able to play at the varsity level and at the junior varsity level,” she said.

The midfielder started playing recreational soccer in kindergarten. She’d been playing select soccer with St. Charles based Mid-Rivers Soccer since the second grade. The sophomore said she would like to continue her soccer career in college after she finishes high school.
