Sports Report: Football Going Strong, Other Sports Finishing Up

Fall sports are nearly complete as the calendar turns to November.

Welcome to another exciting week ahead in high school sports. November is playoff time, and that means every game matters. Let's take a look at the big ones.

Football

The second week of the high school football playoff season kicks off on Monday night. If local teams in Classes 4 and 5 win on Monday, they will again play on Saturday making it three playoff games in 11 days. This is the real season.

Class 6: (9-2) at Francis Howell (8-3) at 7 p.m. on Friday

After cruising to a 41-0 win against Pattonville in the playoff opener on Friday, the Fort Zumwalt West Jaguars should facer a tougher foe this Friday. The Francis Howell Vikings are coming off a 31-0 win against Hickman and have just three losses on the season.

Friday's winner will play next Friday against Blue Springs South or Rockhurst.

Class 5: (6-5) at Kirkwood (9-0) at 7 p.m. on Monday

Holt made it round No. 2 of the playoffs with a 13-10 win against Waynesville. The Indians have been on a tear of late, winning four of the last five. The lone loss was by one point.

Holt, should it advance, would take on the winner of the Zumwalt East vs. Camdenton game on Saturday.

Class 5:  (5-4) vs. Camdenton (6-5) at 7 p.m. on Monday

The Fort Zumwalt East Lions haven't played a game since Week 9 of the football season—way back on Oct. 21. The Lions should be well rested when they take on Camdenton. The Lakers beat Vianney 24-7 last week to make it round two, while the Lions have been sitting pretty with a bye.

The winner of this game will take on the winner of the Kirkwood and Holt contest.

Class 4:  (10-1) at St. Francis Borgia (10-0) at 7 p.m. on Monday

St. Charles West has one loss this season—to Borgia. The Knights are unbeaten this season and the Warriors will be looking for revenge. The winner will face the victor in the Ladue vs. MICDS game on Saturday.

Eliminated

, O'Fallon  and Orchard Farm were all one and done in the playoffs this season.

Soccer

After District play last week, it's time for a trip in the championship bracket. Three local teams remain in the fold: Francis Howell Central, O'Fallon Christian and St. Dominic.

In Class 3, the Spartans of Howell Central will take on Hazelwood West at 6 p.m. on Tuesday. The Spartans will be the host school. Central is 17-7-3 on the season while Hazelwood has a 20-7 record. Round 2 will take place on Saturday.

In Class 2  will square off with Moberly. The Crusaders, fresh off a win in the District 7 tournament, will host Moberly for a chance to keep the season alive. The game will take place at 6 p.m. on Tuesday.

Finally, in  Class 1 play, Christian will take the pitch against John F. Kennedy. The Christian Eagles (15-6) will have to hit the road to take on the 14-8-1 Celts.
