Sports Report: Spring Sports Kick off in St. Peters

Spring is here, it's time play some sports outside.

Mother Nature has left any doubt lately that spring is here. With the weather playing its part, it's now time for the high school sports to get in on the act.

This week marks the first full week of the spring sports season. All around St. Peters baseball, soccer, track and other teams will finally stop the non-stop practices and play in some real games.

  • Who: (Girls Soccer) Zumwalt East at Fort Zumwalt East/Fort Zumwalt South Kickoff
  • When/Where: March 20 to March 23 at Zumwalt East and Zumwalt South
  • Why the big deal?: The Fort Zumwalt East girls soccer will open the season this week and won't take it easy. To start things off, the Lions will take part in the Fort Zumwalt East/Fort Zumwalt South Kickoff—an early-season tournament.

  • Who: (Track) Zumwalt South at Zumwalt Quad
  • When/Where: 3:30 p.m. on March 21 at Fort Zumwalt West.
  • Why the big deal?: The four Fort Zumwalt schools will gather together to ignite the track season. Zumwalt's North, South, East and West will all battle things out in a four-way meet.  

  • Who: (Baseball) Lutheran vs. St. Dominic
  • When/Where: 4:30 p.m. on Thursday, March 22 at home
  • Why the big deal?: After two games on the road, the Lutheran boys will get to play in front of the home crowd on Thursday. The Cougars baseball team will open up the home season with a conference game against St. Dominic. 

Francis Howell Central

  • Who: (Boys tennis) Howell Central at Fort Zumwalt East
  • When/Where: 3:30 p.m. on Monday, March 19, at Zumwalt East
  • Why the big deal?: The Francis Howell Central boys tennis team will open the season on the road. The Spartans will travel to Zumwalt East to battle it out with the Lions on Monday afternoon.
